What was tuchel thinking "putting him on the field was wrong" - Glen Johnson questions Thomas tuchel's substitution against Man United.
Glen Johnson fears Chelsea are still struggling to get the best out of Romelu Lukaku after the club’s record signing was hauled off during the Club World Cup final.
The former Inter striker scored the decisive goal in the semi final win over Al Hilal and opened the scoring against Palmeiras with a bullet header following a pinpoint Callum Hudson-Odoi cross.
Lukaku struggled to make an impact thereafter and was dragged off on the hour mark and replaced by Timo Werner.
Thomas Tuchel’s decision was ultimately vindicated when Kai Havertz settled the game deep in extra-time with a nerveless penalty.
But with the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool on the horizon and the Champions League to contend with, Johnson fears his old club will struggle to achieve their goals unless Lukaku’s full potential is unlocked.
